End of recession in sight, say young fashion buyers

Young fashion buyers are predicting the retail sector will come out of recession next year, but said they would approach the spring 10 season, which kicks off at Bread & Butter (B&B) next month, with caution.

Of the young fashion indies surveyed by Drapers, 73% said spring 10 trading would be better than spring 09. However 54% said they would hold buying budgets at existing levels until they were more certain of the future. Of the 30 indies polled, 60% said they did not plan to attend B&B, which has relocated from Barcelona to Berlin this season.

The luxury shoe brand Jimmy Choo is collaborating with high street store H&M.

The world-famous brand - chosen by the A-list for red carpet appearances and given mass appeal by Sarah Jessica Parker's character Carrie in Sex and The City - will be creating a line of covetable shoes and bags for H&M, as well as a line of women's clothing that will be designed to match the accessories.

Evisu hires chief executive

Denim brand Evisu has hired denim aficionado Scott Morrison as global chief executive.

Scott Morrison, the co-founder of denim brands Paper Denim & Cloth and Earnest Sewn, has been charged with reinvigorating the brand. He left Earnest Sewn just two months ago.

Morrison is expected to move Evisu away from its heavily branded, streetwear image towards a contemporary style, which will be better suited to European markets.

Bollywood star faces arrest after Levi's PR act

MUMBAI - Bollywood star Akshay Kumar faces arrest following a publicity stunt for Levis that prompted a social activist to formally complain to police.

The star of 'Singh is Kinng' was walking the catwalk for the jeans brand when he stepped off stage and asked his wife to to undo the top button of his jeans.

Now the star has been forced to apologise. The televised stunt could contravene Indian obsenity laws and result in Kumar, and his wife, facing three month prison sentences.
