Up to 10 police officers were injured after scuffles broke out when 2,000 people descended on London's Brick Lane for a sale by a US clothing chain.
The Met Police said it was called to the American Apparel event, the first day of a planned four-day sale, because of the unexpected turnout.
The firm stopped the event, blaming the "dangerous behaviour" of people in the line, but plan to open on Saturday.

H&M has unveiled its latest designer collaboration, a lingerie range with Sonia Rykiel.
The range will launch in 1,500 H&M stores on Saturday December 5. It will also be available in eight major Sonia Rykiel boutiques. As well as a lingerie collection, it will feature loungewear inspired by the 1920s and accessories including brooches and pillows.

Friday 20th November at 9.10am the new Oxford Circus X crossing was transformed into a flash fashion catwalk as BrandAlley filmed an exciting ‘FlashWalk’ viral video. FlashWalk starred six body-painted catwalk models (four women and two men), who strutted across the diagonal X crossing to promote BrandAlley’s business model of flash sales.'

H&M sales were worse than expected in October, down 3% on a like-for-like basis.
The Swedish fashion giant said that sales in Scandinavia, Central Europe and Asia were satisfactory during October but that the performance in other markets including France, Spain and the US continued to be weaker.
Total sales across the group grew 7% in October compared to the same month the previous year.
The results came as H&M opened its doors to its latest designer collaboration, this time with Jimmy Choo which drew crowds across the country this weekend.
